I was kind of hard on the X-Men last week, but I think I'm over it now. This is nowhere near the level of disdain I had for Marvel when they retconned Grant Morrison's run, saying that Magneto was not really Xorn but Xorn was Xorn, and... okay, I'm getting angry again... deep breath... I can just ignore this X-Vampire book. It's only stealing away the shitty X-Men anyway. Gambit, Jubilee, X-Man, Blade, She-Hulk. I mean half of them aren't even X-Men, so it's not really that big of a deal. If only they had taken Deadpool too... But anyway, this book exists. Maybe it's for you. It's not for me. So let's get to talking about what I love about the X-Men right now: the end of Second Coming and the beginning of the Five Lights.
First off, Second Coming really surprised me by how well all of the various writers were able to tell such a cohesive story over so many chapters and titles. It was a smooth transition from one issue to the next. There were some lulls, but for the most part the story moved swiftly. Although sometimes so swiftly that a few stories got left behind, such as Shadowcat being left in her box and Professor X going to Legion for help followed by Legion not appearing at all in the rest of the story. But it keeps moving. Some lives are lost, but this is the X-Men, and the X-Men don't stay dead for long.
One of the best parts of Second Coming by far is the appearances of the Avengers and Fantastic Four. They didn't have a huge role to play since they were stuck outside the big red bubble, but it was nice to see them responding to this major threat in their universe, instead of being off-planet or stuck in the Negative Zone. And in Uncanny X-Men: The Heroic Age One-shot, the mutants are formally welcomed back into the Marvel Universe. Cyclops goes dinosaur hunting with Captain America, Beast gets schooled by Molly Hayes from the Runaways, and Hope learns how to deal with her new family from Franklin Richards.

Now let's go back to Second Coming 2.
BEST MOMENTS:
NAMOR SHOWS BEAST THE DOOR. Have fun with the Secret Avengers, asshole!
HOPE HUGGING CABLE’S ARM. When your dead dad is a cyborg, what do you do with his robot arm? Bury it? Love it?
EMMA SEES THE PHOENIX. Is Emma afraid the Phoenix Force is in Hope or is she afraid Cyclops might want to bang his pseudo-granddaughter that reminds him of his dead wife?
X-FORCE GOT GUNS! They're off the radar and armed to the tits.
THE FIVE LIGHTS. This proves Cyclops was right and the war was worth it. Good one!
The Five Lights is the new story arc beginning in the next issue of Uncanny X-Men. I don't know what's happening, but I'm psyched to see where the mutant race is headed. They've been dying and hiding for much too long.
Next up? SCOTT PILGRIM.

I really got a kick outta...
Cyclops' idea of blowing off steam... murdering dinosaurs.
The X-Men are very anti-dinosaur.
Especially since they cut away to Beast at the La Brea Tar Pits, home to many dead dinosaurs.
It's all a metaphor for how the mutants really wish that humans would become extinct!
nah uh
It's a metaphor for JURASSIC PARK RULES.
