A wild, ultra-low-budget indie from writer/director/star Todd Michael Smith, The Writers weaves a story of sexual deviance and forbidden romance between two tortured men.

After Andrew (Todd Michael Smith), a married writer, is taken by Eddy (Stephen Michael McKenzie), a seductive and surprisingly forthcoming serial killer, he is compelled to write about him and the two begin a strange sexual relationship.

The (clearly amateur) actors hold absolutely nothing back from the camera. McKenzie and Smith offer full-frontal nudity and graphic scenes of unsimulated sex ? with some sinister kink and a little bloodshed thrown in for good, horrific measure (the is fake, of course)!

I loved this movie! A great story and delivers everything it promises too. How's that for a change. Smith and McKenzie are so sexy and in love both on and off the screen. You actually end up rooting for the two serial killers. The behind the scenes features are great. From the in depth interview with the elusive Smith to the hot behind the scenes look at the adult content. The short film is a great bonus as well proving just how versatile Smith and McKenzie are. Would love to see what these two could do with a proper budget. All in all a fun and sexy movie. I highly recommend this.

I was recently sent a copy of this DVD for review on my web site. Since I really loved this film I figured I might as well share here as well.

"The Writers" is what true independent filmmaking is all about. This film is original, very well done within its obvious budget restraints and it manages to push the envelope in a way that makes the audience first think and then pull back in revolt.

The plot revolves around Andrew Sarris (Todd Michael Smith) and Pauline Sarris (Kathi Moreau) a husband and wife both of which are successful novelist. The husband and wife relationship is surprisingly deep and fraught with despair and love with many of the emotional facets of a real marriage.

The plot thickens when Andrew goes out to buy newspapers in hopes of finding something to base his next novel on. Instead he finds himself by a cute serial killer named Eddy. Eddy is played terrifically by actor Steven Michael McKenzie.

Andrew decides to use Eddy as fodder for his next novel. What Andrew doesn't expect is that the serial killer Eddy will seduce him and draw him into his serial killer lifestyle. Here is where the film really takes off. The gay relationship between Eddy and Andrew as they not only kill but truly love each other is played with a depth and passion that really pulls the audience in and even makes the audience sympathise with them on a number of levels.

After viewing the behind the scenes features you quickly realize that actor Steven Michael McKenzie is passionately in love with and taken by his director Todd Michael Smith. I'm sure that this played prominently in the performance by McKenzie.

However the performances were reached however the fact remains that these two characters burn up the screen with a mix of utter violence and some of the hottest sex scenes you are likely to see in any film. Check this film out. You will be glad you did.

I keep seeing this film labeled as camp. I don't see it. The film is very well written and directed. It has top notch acting. I will admit the film is fun and has great lines and even comedic relief at certain times. More than not though I was just creeped out and terrified by this film. I really got into the movie and found myself feeling scared and wishing I wasn't in my house alone. McKenzie and Smith are brilliant as the two serial killers not to mention they are both so sexy. I just wanted to eat them both up. Yeah yeah I know these actors are gay but a girl can dream can't she. lol All in all a great flick and I really enjoyed it.

I recently seen this film while vacationing in Rehoboth Beach. First off I'm really excited it's coming to DVD. This film is by director Todd Michael Smith who co-directed and starred in the infamous Splatter Farm at what age fifteen or something. It's good to know 25 years later this director can still shock the hell out of us in a time when it's pretty hard to shock. The film is somewhat disturbing because you're never sure whether to be repulsed or turned on and when you finally do find you have a raging one in your pants you have to question yourself on a number of levels. Beautifully filmed and full of quotable lines this one fun flick. If you're a fan of Smith's early work you will love this as I did. Sure to be another cult classic from the director.
